Overcome the Breakup Woes

The phrase "falling in love" sounds quite ironic for the very reason that this "fall" often ends up in a "break". The reasons for this fall could be myriad. Irrespective of what the reason is, breaking up is always a hard and painful task for both the participants. On such occasions, it becomes necessary to look out for ways to overcome the pain caused.

Time is one of the important factors in the healing process. The time required depends on how deep the relationship is. It is not just how long one takes, but also what one does during that period, that makes things better or worse.

Here are some tips to overcome such breakup woes:

Cry out:

Rather than bottling up your emotions, it is safe to give an outlet to them by allowing yourself to grieve. If you are still in a confused state, force yourself to accept the fact that the relationship has come to an end.

Get involved in other activities:

It is important to keep yourself busy by involving in activities you enjoy doing the most. Engage yourself in different activities like watching movies, listening to music, reading books etc. It would help you distract your mind. See to it that the movies, songs and books you choose are such that do not increase your depressed state of mind.

Exercising:

Research has shown that exercise can act as an antidepressant. It can even be a substitute for medication. Going out for an evening walk or exercising for an hour or half could prove very effective in relieving depressions.

Reach out for support:

Reaching out for friends and family for consolation and moral support could be of great help to overcome the wound inflicted. Do not remain isolated, for it could increase your depression. Always try to remain in the company of your loved ones.

Involve in creative activities:

Involve yourself in creative activities like writing and painting. Even dancing could prove very helpful in letting out your feeling of despair. Traveling alone could enhance the feeling of loneliness. It is better to travel in group.

Alcohol is not the escape route:

In a state of depression people begin to consume alcohol. Consuming alcohol is not an escape route to be chosen because it is considered to be a depressant.

Set aside things that would bring memories:

Put aside the mementos or gifts given by the other person that may remind you of him/her. Avoid visiting those places that you had visited in the company of the other person. This would increase your sense of loss and also the pain.

Feel good about yourself:

Do not feel guilty. Try to think of your merits and the positive traits in you. It will make you feel good about yourself.

These are some of the tips that would help you look at the sunshine so that you need not see the shadow. Life has to go on and there can always be a new beginning.
